A carpet that took so long to make can be used for decades, but unless it is treated with care its value will fade.
Please keep the following points in mind when using your Persian carpet.
Every Persian carpet from PARS is backed by a complete maintenance service.
A Persian carpet gains in colour and character the more it is used, but the result depends on how it is treated.
Because a carpet is used for so long, besides repairing moth damage or scorch marks it will at times need to be washed free of dirt, dust and even mould. PARS cleans carpets entirely by hand with a full water wash.
Using a great quantity of water, foreign matter lodged deep in the pile is raked out with a hoe-like tool, further extending the life of the carpet.
Our experienced specialist craftsmen take full responsibility for all maintenance. Please feel free to consult us.
In Japan’s humid climate, mould can develop and seriously damage the fibres even when nothing is visible on the surface of the carpet.
If the carpet is used in a humid place, we recommend turning it over once a year and airing it in the shade in a well-ventilated spot.
Pests prefer dark places with stagnant air and will eat the wool of the pile. Storing an expensive Persian carpet rolled up in a closet or storeroom is actually the worst thing to do.
Mothballs may of course be used, but using the carpet in daily life and occasionally sweeping or vacuuming it from the back as well will keep insect damage at bay.
If the carpet is used for a long time in a place exposed to strong sunlight, the colours will change through “sunburn”. In places that receive strong light every day, curtains are effective.
Should you spill coffee or tea, as first aid blot up the liquid by dabbing repeatedly with a tightly wrung damp cloth, then contact us. Please also feel free to consult us about cigarette burns, moth damage or any other problem.
